Practicing Everyday Transcendence
In this post I invite you to join me in practicing transcending the limits of our physical bodies, by turning our focus to our interconnectedness, which reaches beyond the world of time and space.
Have a Good Day
In this post, I describe a mindfulness practice to be carried out throughout the day to help us to have a good day. Drawn from the section, “Rules for Decision” of A Course in Miracles (T-30.I), this practice helps us to cultivate a relationship with “something greater,” namely our inner (or outer) Guide, however we conceive of it. By regularly joining with our Guide, we can change our experience from having a lousy day to having a good one.
Losing All Sense of Separate Interests
This post focuses on romantic relationships and the love and union they symbolize. It suggests some principles couples can use to transcend their sense of separate interests and experience more closeness and connection. (The title is taken from P-2.II.8:4.)
Letting Go of Grievances
This post is about experiencing personal peace by letting go of grievances, through non-judgment and through recognizing how the thoughts in our minds color our perceptions.
The Christmas Episode: Cultivating Joy
As the year draws to a close, the Christian world celebrates the season of Advent and then Christmas. In this blog post, I bring in ideas from Buddhist tradition and from A Course in Miracles on cultivating joy.
Miracle Voices Episode: Fürgiveness
Today is the one year anniversary of an interview I did with Matthew McCabe and Tam Morgan, the co-hosts of my favorite podcast, “Miracle Voices.” If you would like to hear the interview, you can find a link to the episode in the post.
The Hinterland
We are all either in the quiet center or wandering about in what I have been thinking of as “the hinterland.” This posts describes some hinterland experiences I have been having over the past year and how to find the way back to the quiet center.
On Healing and Wholeness
This post is inspired both by the season of Advent and by Chapter 5 of A Course in Miracles, titled, “Healing and Wholeness.” Right in the introduction of the chapter, we learn that healing, joy, love, and union with one another and with our Source are all tied together.
And Now for Something Different
This post is simply a brief announcement of an interview I did with Valeria Teles, who invited me to speak with her as part of her podcast, “Fit for Joy.” The blog post gives the link to the interview.
Peace Be with You
The title of this post is drawn from the part of the Catholic Mass in which those in attendance wish one another peace. Since all minds are joined, to give peace is also to receive peace.
The Light Has Come (Workbook Lesson 75)
This last post of 2021 is a meditation on the light within our minds found in Workbook Lesson 75 of A Course in Miracles. The post has a brief first section introducing the meditation, and then a longer “deeper dive” into the background of the meditation drawn from the Lesson instructions and from other parts of the Course.
Forgiveness, My Dog, and Me, Part 2
This post and my last post are recent examples of Course-style forgiveness from my own life. They are dedicated to Judith Skutch Whitson, one of the first students of A Course in Miracles, who passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2021 at the age of 90.
Forgiveness, My Dog, and Me, Part 1
This post and the one to follow are recent examples of Course-style forgiveness from my own life. They are dedicated to Judith Skutch Whitson, one of the first students of A Course in Miracles, who passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2021 at the age of 90.
Moments of Grace
This post describes two experiences of grace and gives the perspective of A Course in Miracles in understanding these moments as memories of our true reality.
Building a Community of Love
This post is inspired by one of the last workshops that Dr. Kenneth Wapnick gave on A Course in Miracles in 2013 called, “The Community of Love,” a title drawn from a quote by the great singer of German lieder, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. One path to achieving the goal of living from the quiet center is to build a community of love (or peace) with everyone we encounter.
On Being Kind
The Dalai Lama is quoted as saying, “My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.” In the Bible, kindness and patience are said to be aspects of love (1 Corinthians 13:4). A Course in Miracles also teaches that Love is kind. Love is our ultimate Reality and the Course says, “Reality is safe and sure, and wholly kind to everyone and everything” (T-16.II.8:6-7). In this blog post, I present a perspective on kindness inspired by A Course in Miracles.
Mantras in Everyday Life
Whenever our peace leaves us, we can use a mantra to help us remember our power to choose how we view anything that we experience. Mantras can also remind us of our union with others, part of the path of awakening to ultimate reality. In addition to the teachings of A Course in MIracles, this post references central tenets of Hinduism and Buddhism.
Living Happily Ever After
In fairy tales, especially ones in which two people meet and fall in love, the protagonists go on to ‘live happily ever after.’ In this post, I share the shift in mind-set taught in A Course in Miracles that paves the way to peace, love, and joy ‘ever after’ in our relationships.
What Would Jesus Think?
This post presents another way to understand the mind-training program of A Course in Miracles, namely that it teaches its students to think as Jesus would. Thinking along these lines leads to becoming more and more “Christ-minded.”
Ambivalence
Ambivalence runs through our days and obscures our natural inheritance, which is Love. From the perspective taught in A Course in Miracles, we experience spiritual ambivalence because we vacillate between listening to one of two “voices” in our minds. This post sketches the Course’s path to resolving this ambivalence through developing a relationship with our Guide.
